HAPPY NEW YEAR 2023 AND DRINKING FROM MY SAUCER

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2023. I am going to pray this year for many blessings and much protection from the Almighty, so we may move forward with grace and trust Our Lord for all things. May you have many blessings, much good health and all the love your heart can hold. It feels good to start another year here blogging. I began my own journey in November (1) 2009. I will always be grateful to Barb for encouraging me to join this fun activity. I also am so grateful for my great cousin Mike B who also encouraged me greatly to write about our childhood in the greatest neighborhood that ever existed. Although these two wonderful souls no longer blog ( come back please) I will always be grateful for their encouragement and many stories of their own that they shared with me.

DRINKING FROM MY SAUCER
by JOHN PAUL MOORE

I've never made a fortune and it's probably too late now.
But I don't worry about that much, I'm happy anyhow.

And as I go along life's way, I'm reaping better than I sowed.
I'm drinking from my saucer, 'Cause my cup has overflowed.

I don't have a lot of riches, and sometimes the going's tough.
But I've got loved ones around me, and that makes me rich enough.

I thank God for His blessings, and the mercies He's bestowed.
I'm drinking from my saucer, 'Cause my cup has overflowed.

I remember times when things went wrong, my faith wore somewhat thin.
But all at once the dark clouds broke, and the sun peeped though again.

So God, help me not to gripe about the tough rows that I've hoed.
I'm drinking from my saucer, 'Cause my cup has overflowed.

If Gid gives me strength and courage, when the way grows steep and rough
I'll not ask for other blessings, I'm already blessed enough.

And may I never be too busy, to help others bear their loads.
Then I'll keep drinking from my saucer, "Cause my cup has overflowed.

My 2023 word is Perseverance. It is a simple word with a simple meaning, persistence in doing something  despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. Along with my 2023 word here is my 2023 Scripture:

Psalm 141:3-4 " Set a guard over my mouth Lord, keep watch over the doors of my lips.
Do not let my heart be drawn to evil, so that I take part in evil deeds along with those who are evildoers; do not let me eat their delicacies."

I love that poem about "drinking from my saucer". A friend gave that to me last year with a cup and saucer attached. It sits on my countertop to remind me of God's blessings. Perseverance is a good word, and I am sure God will be helping you as you learn more and more what that truly means. My 2023 word is "Listen". Isaiah 55:2. We will be walking and listening and learning together from God's Word this year. Looking forward to it! Happy New Year!

I love the overflowing cup image, Anne - it's so true for the vast majority of us. Let us remember all that God has blessed us with before we even think about griping or complaining.
Blessings!

A Happy New Year to you and yours. ours was a quiet one, but that is our choice as we age ... I've not been able to contact our mutual blogger friend Ms. Edna, I sure hope she is well and just taking some time off.
