Tuesday4 and Happy Tuesday with Maxine Cracking Me Up

It's time once again for Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.

Since Saint Patrick's Day is March 17 it might be nice to talk about it.

1. Do you celebrate the day and is it more secular or religious for you? I was raised Catholic, I know all the background info on the various saints such as Patrick and my husband is Irish on his dad's side with ancestry back to a Nicholas Robinson in the 1700's. We just enjoy wearing green and enjoying the traditional food we have cooked for years, corn beef and cabbage and Shepherd's Pie.

We took this photo in 2018 with all our crazy green gear!

2. Americans eat corned beef and cabbage but it's not traditional in Ireland at all.   In my  house its Colcannon and Beef Stew or Cottage pie (shepherds pie made with beef instead of lamb).. which is more realistic and far less salty.  Do you make special meals for holidays?  What will you make for St. Patrick's Day?

We do make corn beef and cabbage and Shepherd's Pie. Rebekah, our middle is making corn beef and cabbage two different ways so we are waiting to see what she will do. She also plans to makes Irish soda bread although Sprouts grocery store carries a great variety. One year when my husband's oldest brother was still here (May he always Rest in Peace since 2015). his ex wife made corn beef and cabbage three ways, in a pressure cooker, an oven and a crock pot. To be honest, each one was delicious and tender and we had a small helping of each one. It is a nice memory of happier days for Michael before his ex dumped him.

3.  Do you have much green in your wardrobe? Does the color look good on you?

I do love green, and my late mom loved it too. In fact the last car my late dad bought for her was a beautiful sage green. I have a Teenage Ninja Turtle t shirt in emerald green. a sage green Ariel dress from LuLaRoe and some other tops in green. I have blue eyes so it is a good color choice.

4. In school we put up giant green shamrocks and Leprechauns. We made green paper chains to decorate our classrooms.  What do you do to decorate?

I use lots of Dollar Tree decorations because they are so reasonable.

This is a thrift store find and it was on our brown front door until our daughter Hannah, visiting from back east , painted it green for us last summer. We've had such a hard winter this year that many of decorations are still in the shed. Including my cute wreath.

Happy Tuesday

I thought talking about St. Patrick's Day would be a happy thought today.

I love all these sayings you can find for this holiday. Happy thoughts are the very best.

You know happiness should always prevail yet here is Maxine and she is being terribly ornery today:

Maxine is extra ornery today and all I can say is, oh that poor pup!

The wreath is adorable, and the photo of you is so cute! I had no idea that corned beef & cabbage is not popular in Ireland!

I love the pic of you and your husband.
We don't do much for At Patrick's day but one year we went to an Irish restaurant near us and they had an Irish band playing. So much fun!

Ohhh I learned something new today. I love hearing traditions from all around the world. I will look up Colcannon. I started looking for a Corn Beef Brisket in mid Feb. I was about to give up then I tried a different grocery store. Found one. I am Southern American to the core; however, somewhere deeper than my Southern DNA there is some Irish. We do love the tradition corn beef, cabbage, carrots and tater on 3/17.

Colcannon: A St. Patrick's day favorite, colcannon is an Irish potato recipe, a mixture of creamy mashed potatoes and usually kale or cabbage
I could really enjoy this too

Y'all look so cute in your St. Patrick's Day gear, Anne! I'm not a big corned beef and cabbage fan, but I'll take Shepherd's Pie any day of the week. Maybe, I can talk Danny in to making us some. :)
Blessings!

How cute the two of you look in the green!
Dollar Tree is a great resource for fun decor. I uncovered my green carnations but haven't done anything else this year. Saving it for Easter!

People here celebrate with a parade on the Saturday nearest, but i stay away from the parades mostly because the crowds make me tired.

I'll have to see if i can hunt up some green to wear.

Maxine is great, always.

I moved with my parents from Germany to Belgium when I was 14. In Germany the religion is half and half, the north is mostly protestant and the south catholic. Belgium is only catholic, protestant was completely unknown they took me like a Jehova witness, now it changed a bit ! I learned about St. Patrick through the blogs, I had never heard of him, in the protestant religion are no saints. Since a couple of years I see some St. Patrick decorations brought from the Americans who moved here.

What a fun pic of the two of you. I'm going to make Corned beef on Monday or Tuesday and I was just trying to think of how I wanted to make it. I was thinking of trying the pressure cooker. I haven't tried making soda bread. I loved all those sayings and quotes.
